Plain-language definitions for the licensing, tax, and technology terms used across this site.
PAM (Player Account Management)
The backend system that manages player registration, KYC, wallets, and transaction history across an operator's gambling products — often supplied separately from the casino or sportsbook content itself.
Turnkey
A technology model where an operator gets a ready-to-launch casino/sportsbook stack under its own brand on the vendor's infrastructure, while still needing to hold its own operating licence directly.
White-Label
The fastest, lowest-cost technology model, where an operator launches under (or alongside) the vendor's own brand and, typically, the vendor's own gambling-software licence — the operator's own remote operating licence requirement is unaffected.
Aggregator
A vendor that bundles game content from many studios into a single integration — commonly used by sportsbook-only platforms to add a casino catalog without building one directly.
RGD (Remote Gaming Duty)
The UK tax on remote gaming profits, rising from 21% to 40% effective April 2026.
GBD (General Betting Duty)
The UK tax on remote betting, rising from 15% to 25% effective April 2027, excluding spread betting, pool bets, horse-racing bets, and self-service betting terminals.
LCCP (Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice)
The UK Gambling Commission's rulebook attached to every licence, covering everything from advertising to player protection.
RTS (Remote Technical Standards)
The Gambling Commission's technical rules for online games — covering spin speeds, autoplay, win-presentation, and reverse withdrawal — with independent testing required before launch.
PML (Personal Management Licence)
A UK licence held by named individuals in specified roles at an operator, covering management, finance, compliance, marketing, and gambling/IT functions.
GGY (Gross Gambling Yield)
The standard measure of gambling revenue used across UK regulatory and industry reporting — amounts staked minus amounts paid out in winnings.
RNG (Random Number Generator)
The certified software component that produces random outcomes in casino games, independently tested by an approved test house before a game can be offered under a UK licence.
RTP (Return to Player)
The long-run percentage of stakes a game is designed to pay back to players over time, tested and certified separately from RNG.
GLI (Gaming Laboratories International)
An independent testing lab whose standards — including GLI-19 for interactive gaming systems — are used across the industry; GLI appears on the UK Gambling Commission's published list of approved test houses. See our RNG & Game Certification Standards page for more.
eCOGRA
